Houses in Vall d'Aran
Construction of houses combining wood and slate in Vielha
This project sets out to build four semi-detached houses in the historical center of Vielha, a picturesque town located in the heart of the Pyrenees. The site´s environment is harsh and mountainous, and set amongst idyllic Aranese houses constructed from stone, slate and timber.
The project maintains the vernacular style of the region and only uses locally sourced materials. The sharp apex of the roof offers practicality by reducing snow settlement. By combining this with dormer windows easily accommodates two floors within the attic, optimizing space and comfort.
Inside, a blend of seasoned timber and warm greys of the natural slate creates a snug environment.
