Market in Alcanar

The proposal started out with the search for a market as a covered public space. It is located in an area near the old quarter characterised by a heterogeneous setting we wished to homogenise by extending the market square.

The building is expressed as an independent volume, located at the confluence of three major avenues, to which it opens up with its different façades made of precast white concrete ribs. These create a connection that allows its entire interior to be visualised and illuminated, and simultaneously form the building’s vertical structure, freeing up the central space to give prominence to businesses and users.
