Mixed-use, commercial and residential building
New construction project in Andorra, combining slate and wood
Projection of a vertical mixed-use building, intended for commercial use on its lower floors and residential use in the upper part of the building.
The building is situated on a corner plot, with the front of the building on a main road in Escaldes-Engordany (Andorra), a key commercial hub. This is why the design features a completely transparent commercial base, at street level and with double height through a set-back mezzanine floor.
Maximum use is made of the natural light in the homes since, as a corner plot, it has a large facade. Each home has a terrace for outdoor space, and sliding shutters have been incorporated into the facade design to offer solar protection and privacy to the interior space.
In compositional terms, the vertical structure of the building is outlined, formed by rhythmic ribs that showcase the facade. Essentially, two materials stand out in the building materiality: slate and wood, ubiquitous in the built heritage of the Pyrenees.
